Meta just blocked TikTok ads. Don't pick a side — play both.

In short

Meta banned TikTok/ByteDance ads (and any ad pointing to TikTok) in the US and six more markets on Oct 8, 2026. The upside: the platform losing ground pays creators the most — Facebook's Creator Fast Track gives up to $3,000/month for 3 months. Don't pick a side: post native to every network and don't depend on one app.

What happened

On October 8, 2026, Meta barred ByteDance — TikTok's parent — from advertising on Facebook and Instagram in the United States, Canada, Japan, Egypt, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. And not only TikTok's own ads: any brand whose ad sends people over to TikTok is out too. Meta's line to Reuters was blunt: "We don't have to run ads from a competitor whose goal is to pull people off our apps." To be fair, TikTok threw the first punch months ago, pulling the direct Instagram link from profiles and rejecting Meta's ads.

Why this is actually good news for you

When the big platforms fight, they pay creators to switch. Facebook's Creator Fast Track pays up to $3,000 a month for three months just for posting 15 videos a month. We've seen this film before: when TikTok was eating everyone, YouTube put up a $100M Shorts fund and Meta promised creators over $1B. The platform that's losing ground is the one that gives the most away to win it back.

The rule: each network rewards what stays in

Stop posting a clip with "link in bio → TikTok." Upload the whole video, natively, to each place. The video that crushes on TikTok should go up in full to Reels and to Facebook too — not as a link that ships your audience somewhere else. Every network boosts what keeps people inside and buries what sends them out.

What to do this week

One: check whether you qualify for a creator bonus on the platform that's losing ground. Two: repurpose native, not links. Three: don't hang your whole business on one app — your worst day is the day it changes the rules on you.

Frequently asked questions

Does this ban affect advertisers outside the US?

Directly, only in the seven listed markets (US, Canada, Japan, Egypt, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam). But it signals where platform rules are heading, so it's worth watching even if you're elsewhere.

What's the fastest way to benefit from the platform war?

Check the creator bonus of the platform that's losing (like Facebook's Creator Fast Track) and post your best videos there natively, in full, instead of linking out.
