There was a time when the whole plan was simple: get people to your website. The site was the store. The homepage was the window display. If someone landed there, you'd done your job. That world is mostly gone, and pretending it isn't quietly costs businesses customers every week.
Think about the last time you tried a new restaurant or hired a local service. Where did you actually decide? Probably on the map listing, the star rating, a few photos, a couple of reviews, maybe a short video, or an AI answer that summed it all up. By the time you clicked the website, if you clicked it at all, you'd basically already made up your mind. The decision happened before the homepage.
Your storefront moved, and it's now in several places
Your real "window display" in 2026 is scattered across surfaces you don't fully control: your Google Business Profile, your reviews, your social feed, the photos other people took, and increasingly the answer an AI gives when someone asks it to recommend a business like yours. Those are what people see first. If they're thin, outdated, or contradictory, you lose the customer before your beautiful website ever gets a chance.
This isn't bad news. It's just a different map. And most of it is fixable this month.
What to actually do
Treat the outside surfaces as your storefront. Keep your map listing complete and current, hours, photos, services, and answer questions there. Ask happy customers for reviews on purpose, not by accident. Post enough that your social feed looks alive.
Make sure the machines can read you. The AI answers pulling your business into recommendations rely on clear, consistent, structured information. Same name, address and hours everywhere. This is the same work that gets you cited when someone asks ChatGPT or Google's AI for "a good option near me."
Then give your website one job. Stop asking your homepage to introduce you, it's not the first impression anymore. Ask it to close. The visitor who arrives is already interested; your site's only mission is to make the next step obvious and easy: book the call, get the quote, buy the thing. Fewer distractions, one clear action.
The shift in one sentence
You get discovered out there, and you convert in here. Build for both, and stop expecting your homepage to do a job the rest of the internet already took from it. If you want us to look at where your customers actually meet you and tighten each step, reach out to the La Media Social team.
